Human herpes virus type (HHV 7) belongs to the subfamily Betaherpesvirinae and from biological and molecular analyzes it appears to be closely related to HHV 6.
It was associated with some cases of exanthema subitum, or sixth disease, a childhood disease that is usually caused by HHV 6. The primary infection, which generally occurs in childhood, has a benign or asymptomatic course, but in rare cases it can cause several severe complications. Reactivation in immunocompromised subjects, although not yet fully known, has been correlated with pneumonia in lung transplant recipients, general dysfunction of the transplanted organ, meningitis and encephalitis.
