Description
The REALQUALITY RQ-HHV 8 is an IVD device for detection and quantification of the DNA of Human herpes virus type 8 (HHV 8) by Real-Time PCR.
Product Characteristics
- The device is validated on DNA extracted from various samples types
- The assay requires only 5 µL of DNA extracted
- If used in combination with the REALQUALITY RQ-HHV 8 STANDARD, it allows the quantification of the viral DNA present in the sample
- The assay shares the same thermal profile of the REALQUALITY Infectious diseases kits
- Validated on main Real-Time PCR instruments
- The assay includes dUTP/UNG system for preventing carry-over contamination and a fluorescence normalizer
- The automatic format of the assay can be used on GENEQUALITY® automatic platforms
- Easy interpretation of results with AB Genius Report software
Kit content
Kit contains:
- Ready-to-use reagents for Real-Time PCR
- Internal control
- Positive control
Further Information
The Human Herpe svirus type 8 (HHV 8), also known as Kaposi’s sarcoma associated herpesvirus (KSHV), is a Gammaherpesvirus generally found in three neoplasms: Kaposi’s sarcoma, lymphomas associated with body cavities (indicated by the acronym PEL = primary effusion lymphoma) and in the multifocal version of Castelman’s disease (MCD).
In Kaposi’s sarcoma it is possible to detect the virus in all clinical stages and in all epidemiological forms. In immunosuppressed subjects, with or without KS, the virus has also been detected in non-tumor tissues: skin, lymphoid tissue, peripheral blood mononuclear cells, saliva, prostate, and seminal fluid.
Multicentric Castleman disease (MCD) is a lymphoproliferative disorder that can present in multiple variants and it is the one involving plasma cells that frequently presents with HHV 8 infection.
Like the other herpesviruses, HHV 8, after an initial infection which manifests itself with fever and the appearance of a rash, begins a latency phase. The subsequent reactivation of the virus in immunosuppressed subjects leads to the appearance of Kaposi’s sarcoma.
In addition to subjects affected by AIDS, transplant recipients also have a high risk of developing Kaposi’s sarcoma, due to their state of immunosuppression.
